FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the age range for this program?

13 years old to 18 years old. They are divided by age first then skill.

 

How are the players grouped?

Local = (beginner level) never played or limited experience. Learning phase, many specific skills and positional drills. Focused on learning about teamwork, hustle, having fun, communication and commitment. Ages range from 13 to 16

Regional = (intermediate level) can pass to target, can get serves over the net (maybe not consistently). Mostly learning and somewhat competitive. Still learning about teamwork, hustle, patience and fun, communication, and commitment. We offer Blue and Pink teams. Blue is more beginner, Pink is more advanced. Ages range from 13 to 16

Travel = (advanced level) understands the game (serve receive, defense, offense and base), can pass to target, can serve, hit and/or set.  It’s competitive. Players are coachable and 100% committed. We offer Travel 1 (most advanced) and Travel 2. Ages range from 13 to 18

Practice Player = Goes to all training and practices for either Regional or Travel teams but does not participate in tournaments unless a spot opens up or that player is needed for a tournament. There’s an additional fee to play in a tournament.

 

When are tryouts?

We offer tryouts for Regional and Travel players starting in June. We post dates on Instagram, Facebook our website and send information through email. We start tryouts with travel players tryouts (June-July) first then offer Regional tryouts (July-August) until we’ve filled every team. Local players do not need to tryout.

 

Do you focus on positions?

Regional players - train 2-3 positions. Play 1-2 positions in tournaments.

Travel players - do train a specific position. Can change throughout the season

*We offer positional training every Monday (except for holidays) at NW Christian to work on specific positions. This is in addition to what’s practiced during team practices.

 

Where do they practice?

We rent city and school gyms. Our 13U-18U players practice at ADAPT, GALVIN, or NW Christian. There are different schedules based on age and skill level:

What if a registration has reached its full capacity?

We have a waiting list form online. Once a spot opens up, we reach out to you (through email) in the order we received them. 2024-2025 Regular Season Waiting List

 

How long is practice? How often do they practice?

  • Local teams practice for 1.5 hours twice a week.

  • Regional teams practice for 1.5 hours twice a week plus 2 months of additional training (beach, weights, open gym, or skills clinics)

  • Travel teams practice for 1.5 hours twice a week plus 5-6 months of additional training (beach, weights, open gym, or skills clinics)

 

Can you describe a typical volleyball practice session?

We focus on skill development, game-like drills, plays, defense, offense and communication/teamwork on the court. A typical practice looks like this:

There is no heavy weightlifting or excessive running but there is a chance of injury, like with any sport.

 

What do they need to wear or bring to practice?

Wear NMB shirts or any T-shirt (no tanks or crop tops). Shorts, spandex or leggings. Knee pads, running shoes, hair must be up, NO jewelry (mainly bracelets, watches, big earrings). Bring a water bottle. If things get lost, there is a lost & found but we’re not responsible for lost items.

We prorate every 2 weeks. Contact us to find out the exact price.

What’s included in the uniform package?

  • Local - 1 short sleeve jersey, 2 practice shirts, 1 spandex, 1 warmup, 1 backpack

  • Regional - 2 jerseys (1 short sleeve, 1 long sleeve), 2 practice shirts, 2 spandex, 1 warmup, 1 backpack

  • Travel -  2 jerseys (1 short sleeve, 1 long sleeve), 2 practice shirts, 1 spandex, 1 legging, 1 warmup, 1 backpack

Where do they play tournaments or scrimmages?

  • Local teams play in-house scrimmages at one of our rented gyms, usually on Sundays for 3-4 hours

  • Regional teams play the Florida Junior Challenge League tournaments which are in different school gyms in the tri-county. They’re all 1-day tournaments 4-6 hours long. They also play one or two 2-day tournaments in the tri-county.

  • Travel teams play all 2-day or 3-day tournaments that are AAU or USAV sanctioned in the tri-county. They also play travel tournaments in Florida (for example: Orlando, Ocala or Winter Haven). Travel 1 travels to other states.

 

How do players get to tournaments?

Parents or guardians take them to the tournaments. Coaches are not allowed to take players to tournaments.

 

Are there spectator and parking fees?

  • For Local teams - there are no spectator fees or parking fees

  • For Regional teams - it’s $10 per person over 10 years old. Each gym has their own form of payment. Some do cash only, or venmo, cashapp, zelle or credit card. Some gym required paid street parking

  • For Travel teams - there are links for payment that range from $15 to $25 per person per day. There are parking fees that range from $15 and up per day.

 

What are the coaching requirements?

All our coaches have experience playing and/or coaching. They are all background checked through AAU and/or USAV. They are all required to attend coaching training and meetings to discuss season and player progressions. We have 2-3 coaches per team including master coaches, head coaches, assistant coaches, floater coaches, teen coaches and volunteers.

 

What is an AAU membership?

It is sports insurance for sport-related accidents while participating in AAU-licensed events. This is an additional fee. All athletes are required to have it or they cannot practice or play in tournaments. AAU membership is required to participate in AAU-licensed events (tournaments and practices). Play AAU > Join AAU > MultiMembershipApplication 

AAU membership is valid from September 1 to August 31: 

  • Youth athletes: $20–$22 

 

What is a USAV membership?

It is also sports insurance for sport-related accidents while participating in USAV-licensed events. This is an additional fee. All TRAVEL athletes are required to have it or they cannot practice or play in tournaments. Memberships - FLORIDA REGION OF USA VOLLEYBALL

 

How do I register for the season?

Our registrations are always on our website www.nmbvb.com. Payments are automatically withdrawn every month. All registrations are online. The parent has to make an account with an email that's checked frequently. After you register, download SportsEngine where you’ll have access to the schedule, roster and chat. If you need access to your registration or payment information, you need to use the website, not the app.

 

How do I communicate with a coach?

Through the SporsEngine app or you can email them with their first name @nmbvb.com
